The purpose of BTEC Higher Nationals in International Travel and Tourism Management is to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals able to meet the demands of employers in travel and tourism and adapt to a constantly changing world. The qualifications aim to widen access to higher education and enhance the career prospects of those who undertake them. The travel and tourism industry is one of the world’s largest industries. There are a vast amount and diversity of employment opportunities available in the UK and around the world, working for airlines, hotels, travel agencies, tour operators, cruise liners hospitality and events management teams. This course will prepare you for a career in the dynamic and exciting travel and tourism industry. Whether you are new to the industry or have experience of working in a related organisation, this HND will improve your career prospects. This course is aimed at students wanting to continue their education through applied learning. Higher Nationals provide a wide-ranging study of the travel and tourism industry and are designed for students who wish to pursue or advance their career in the travel and tourism sector. In addition to the knowledge, understanding and skills that underpin the study of travel and tourism, this course will give students experience of the breadth and depth of the sector that will prepare them for further study or training. With a global focus, this course provides a thorough grounding in travel and tourism principles at both an operational and strategic level. The emphasis is on developing the practical skills necessary to fulfil a variety of managerial positions within the industry. You will explore key issues and challenges facing the industry; with particular emphasis on tourism production and consumption, sustainability and ethics, globalisation and intercultural dimensions, recognising the role that travel and tourism plays in addressing these issues.
