In our Mechanical Engineering subject area, all of our degree programmes share the same first year of study, allowing you to leave your options open until the start of your second year. During your first and second year you'll take part in our initiative called EnABLE (Engineering in an Activity Based Learning Environment), which will see you take on projects to develop your technical knowledge and skills. The placement offers excellent real-world engineering experience to help you stand out at graduate interviews. In the fourth year, you will work on a selected individual research/design project with the support of your academic supervisor. In your fifth (Master's) year, you will take part in a team project involving the design, build and friendly competitive testing of either a road, airborne or rail vehicle. Modules

Course modules are varied and include an optional placement year, several option modules, and the following core modules (amongst others): • Engineering Communication and Materials • Mathematics • Analysis of Materials.

Assessment method

During your first and second year you will be part of our programme: EnABLE (Engineering in an Activity Based Learning Environment). You will have the opportunity to get continual feedback through weekly SAIL (Score as I Learn) assignments so you will feel confident in your studies and be able to access support when you need it. Assessment of your progress is made through assignments, exams and individual project work, with the course being taught via lectures, seminars and tutorials. *based on the course structure for 2023 entry as at November 2021

Qualification requirements

In addition to A2 Mathematics, A Levels must include one of the following: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Further and Additional Mathematics, Computer Science, Design and Technology: Product Design, or Statistics. BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma Engineering - please note that we do not accept BTEC Computing and Operations as a qualification for entry to this course. Please note that we do not accept T Levels for entry to this course for 2024. Other suitable experience or qualifications will be considered.
