Course summary

Are you looking for a national recognised qualification? Are you ready to improve your career prospects and looking for a career in quantity surveying or estimating? If so, a Higher National Certificate in Quantity Surveying will help you get there. This course at UCNL will give you practical experience with cost management by mastering the skills of measurement and estimating that are essential for the quantity surveyor and estimator. All teaching staff having extensive industrial experience, are highly qualified and enthusiastic professionals. Upon completion of your HNC in Quantity Surveying you will have developed a sound understanding of quantity surveying techniques along with other disciplines ensuring you will be ready to take the next step forward into cost management and control of construction projects, or take further qualifications to better your knowledge and understanding of the industry. This course is particularly relevant to people already working in or looking to develop a career within it. Further the course provides a range of skills relevant across a variety of different professions. People who have completed this course have gone on to work in areas of construction cost management including: • Quantity Surveyor • Procurement Manager • Estimator If you wish to continue studying beyond this course, it will provide you with a strong academic basis to do so. Course progression routes may include The HNC course is designed to provide progression onto a BTEC Higher National Diploma (HND) top-up or a higher apprenticeship top-up. This will also then offer a route to study a top-up degree in quantity surveying or a related discipline as well as progression to professional body membership.

Assessment method

The primary way of delivering this course is on campus On campus teaching includes a combination of lectures, small group seminars, workshops, guest lectures, field trips and one to one discussion with your tutor. The academic year is 30 weeks in duration with students expected to attend two days a week on a full-time programme and one day a week on a part time programme. Further students will receive 14 hours of teaching per week when attending on a full-time course and 7 hours part time. Additional one-to-one meetings with tutors will provide further support.
