Course summary

Dance and Performance at The Arden School of Theatre offers a comprehensive programme that explores multiple genres and forms of dance and locates these in contemporary devising and performance structures. The study of technical and creative components of dance is set within the context of a range of appropriate theoretical underpinnings. The aim of the programme is to train and support professional dance artists that are knowledgeable, skilled, creative and employable. The course is fast-paced and heavily practical, encouraging students to explore their individual artistic interests. The course is ideal for those with a passion for dance and a desire for a career in the dance and performance industry. The Arden School of Theatre utilises its working links with the professional community of Manchester and the North West in order allow students the opportunity to network and develop as practitioners and artists. The modules covered in the programme engage students in process of moving from interdisciplinary creative and technical development to skilled individual performers with a unique identity and artistic vision that responds to the demands of the current dance industry.

Qualification requirements

We strongly recommend that all applicants have GCSE English Language and Mathematics grades A*-C or level 9-4. Applicants who do not meet the standard entry criteria but have previous learning towards a degree-level qualification or relevant industry or life experience will be considered on an individual basis and may be invited to interview.

Audition

Interview

Applicants are required to attend a workshop audition and interview that will take place on a single day. It will last approximately 5 hours. For international/distance auditions, applicants should submit a 4-minute portfolio of class work that demonstrates their technical skill in at least 2 styles, and a 2-3 minute solo performance in any style. These can submitted electronically via wetransfer.com. There will also be a short skype interview on a mutually convenient date after this has been received. Auditionees should prepare a 2-3 solo in any style of their choice and supply a 500-word piece of written work that answers the following theme; ‘Breaking boundaries in dance’.
