Course summary

The purpose of Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals in Construction Management for England is to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals able to meet the demands of employers in the construction sector and adapt to a constantly changing world. Objectives include providing the core skills required for a range of careers in construction. A balance of employability skills and the knowledge essential for students with entrepreneurial, employment or academic ambitions will be offered. The programmes incorporate a combination of traditional classroom teaching, open learning and research based experiential learning, laboratory experiments and demonstrations, use of surveying equipment, industry standard IT applications and group activities. Many assignments are based around students' own work experiences. The course requires 240 credits, comprising 8 units (15 credits each) at Level 4 AND 8 units (15 credits each) at Level 5: Level 4: Unit 1: Construction Design Project; Unit 2: Construction Technology or Unit 17: Civil Engineering Technology; Unit 4: The Construction Environment; Unit 5: Legal and Statutory Requirements in Construction; Unit 6: Digital Applications for Construction Information or Unit 26: Digital Applications for Building Information Modelling; Unit 11: Financial Management & Business Practices in Construction; Unit 12: Tender & Procurement; Unit 13: Building Information Modelling. Level 5: Unit 28: Group Project; Unit 39: Personal Professional Development; Unit 30: Project Management; Unit 32: Advanced Construction Drawing & Detailing; Unit 33: Construction Technology for Complex Buildings Projects Plus 3 additional optional units.
