Course overview

  • We have collaborated with Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service (LFRS) to create an exciting programme of study in Fire Scene Investigation which will see you investigate the cause and origin of fires, using multi-disciplinary science and research methodology.
  • For your dissertation you’ll get to study an area of fire science that interests you, taking responsibility for designing, conducting, analysing and interpreting the results of a substantial investigation that’ll also be contributing to the discipline.
  • You’ll gain valuable work experience with an opportunity to undertake a professional placement as part of your MSc, or choose an industry-based project.

Further information If you take up a professional placement as part your MSc it will extend your study time by six to twelve months depending on the length of the placement. You are also responsible for finding your own placement, which we’ll help you with. The Faculty Placement Team and the University’s Careers Team can help you plan and develop your CV and applications, and provide practice interviews.

Entry requirements

Specific entry requirements for this course are: Honours degree of the level 2.2 or above from a UK university or of the CNAA or its equivalent in an appropriate engineering or science discipline (forensic science, biology, chemistry, fire safety engineering etc.); Degree or HNC or HND in an appropriate discipline, together with appropriate professional experience ; Qualification or experience deemed to be equivalent to any of the above.
